Gluten Free Santa’s Whiskers
These Gluten Free Santa’s Whiskers are a four generation family recipe that my Grammie used to make for me every Christmas! They are my absolute all time favorite Christmas cookie!
Being that my Grammie is a snow bird; she isn’t here with us for the winter to make them anymore. So last year I finally taught my daughter; Ashley, how to make them and she loves them now too!
We made a triple batch to save some in the freezer for my Grammie; however, the kids loved them so much they kept sneaking them out of the freezer to have as a treat! Little to my dismay; when I decided to go out and “sneak” one myself, they were all gone! They didn’t even make it a month in the freezer!
A new family tradition was created with my daughter; who loves to bake! Making family Christmas cookie recipes to carry on the family legacy!
I have such fond memories of baking during the holidays with my Grammie. She always made several different types of cookies. My Nana always made her Crumbly Apple Pie and Mincemeat Cookies! My dad would give my Nana a bad time asking her if she brought another “crummy” apple pie for dessert. It was always his favorite; so she always made him his very own without raisins!
My husband loved it when his mom made Fantastic Fudge and Peanut Butter Drop Cookies. She would always make him his very own batch of cookies; wrapped in a cookie tin for him to hide and enjoy! Ashley and I managed to duplicate the recipe and surprise him with Gramma Marie’s Peanut Butter Drop Cookies! He really enjoyed them; however, I think he would of rather his mom make them for him!
The Santa’s Whiskers are definitely still my favorite! I could make them for any occasion! If you like chewy cookies; just leave them in a ziplock baggie and they soften right up! Yummy!
Sometimes the candied cherries can be hard to find; so here are links to the red and green cherries for this recipe.
