Gluten Free Tuna Salad
Every once in a while I get a craving for Gluten Free Tuna Salad! There’s something about pickles and tuna fish that hits the spot for me! My husband isn’t a fan of the pickles, so I leave them out until after I make his sandwich! Then it’s “game on” adding pickles to the rest of the tuna!
I prefer using white albacore tuna packed in water when making my tuna salad. Although you can use whichever type you prefer and have in your cupboard. Whichever tuna fish you use in your household will work great!
There are many ways to prepare tuna fish for sandwiches and in salads. Growing up; my mom used Kraft Miracle Whip dressing rather than mayonnaise. I love the taste of Best Foods Mayonnaise in my tuna salad. I loved going over to my Grammie’s house because she used regular old mayonnaise and it was SO much better to me than miracle whip! My husband is just the opposite! He grew up on Best Foods Mayonnaise and loves Miracle Whip! It’s all about personal preference on this one!
On Whole 30; you need to use an approved mayo. Most Whole 30 approved mayos are made with avocado oil. I like the Primal Kitchen Avocado Mayo that can be ordered through Amazon and conveniently delivered to your doorstep! This and others are available through online markets and in stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. They can take time to receive as they are usually shipping direct.
When making tuna salad; I like to dice up red onion, celery and pickles to bulk up my tuna with veggies. Serving the salad in a lettuce cup is my preferred way to eat; however, I find myself making actual tuna sandwiches for everyone else in my family.
On cold “non whole 30” days I will make tuna melts under the broiler; smothered in cheese! I haven’t tried them with the Daiya dairy free shreds yet; however, that will definitely be on my agenda next time I make tuna salad!
