Gluten Free Pecan Apple Crisp Bars
Have you ever made Gluten Free Pecan Apple Crisp Bars? I hadn’t either until this weekend! They were very soft and absolutely delicious! This apple crisp bar is made with a nice flaky crust and topped with a crunchy and flavorful pecan topping rather than oats.
I have always made apple crisp with oats and no crust! I wasn’t sure how this would turn out; however, being on a paleo diet avoiding oats, grains and sugar I was so excited to try it! I modified a couple recipes I found online to create this one. So glad I changed some ingredients to fit my eating plan so the kids could have a treat that wasn’t so bad for them!
I chose to use honey crisp apples for this bar and I’m so glad I did! It was very fresh and naturally sweet without having to use much maple. I probably could have reduced the maple and added water to help make the “sauce” for the filling. I’m not sure I would; however, it is one way to reduce the natural sugars in this dessert.
After having a piece of this apple crisp; my kids have asked me to replace my traditional apple crisp with this bar pan! They loved the pecans and the light crust on the bottom.
I will definitely make this again! Such an easy and light dessert; enjoyed by the whole family.
